The milestone was reached on March 5, during a flight on the Multipurpose Aircraft Ship (NAM) Atlântico (A-140), when the SH-16 Seahawk N-3035 aircraft performed self-controlled and controlled approaches, as part of the qualification for landing. on board assisted with Night Vision Goggles (OVN).

In the period from 1965 to 1974, EsqdHS-1 began its operations with the Sikorsky SH-34J aircraft model, known as SH-1 “Whale”, and had its origins with the transfer of the 1st Squadron of the First Embarked Aviation Group ( 1st GAE), from the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) to the Brazilian Navy (MB).

Then, from 1970 until 2012, it used the Sikorsky and Agusta/Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King models, better known as “Guerreiro” (Warrior), equipped with radar and sonar.

It also had the capacity to launch an Exocet AM-39 missile, MK-44 and MK-46 torpedoes, as well as a Mk-9 depth charge.

It is worth highlighting the pioneering role of this helicopter in Brazil, in the launch of these weapons, instrument flights, landing on board ships at night and in the refueling of helicopters in flight with the ship, known as HIFR (Helicopter In-Flight Refueling).

Finally, incorporated since August 23, 2012, Naval Aviator's Day, the Sikorsky S-70B Seahawk has been providing relevant services to the Brazilian Navy, totaling more than 10 thousand flight hours, 2,000 landings on board, of these, more than 200 night landings assisted with OVN and more than 500 flight hours using this equipment.

With the use of its HELRAS (Helicopter Long Range Active Sonar) DS-100 sonar, the SH-16 has already performed almost 600 hours of ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) flight.

Among the various missions carried out, there are nine launches of real weapons using the Penguin air-to-surface missile, two launches of MK-46 torpedoes with an exercise head, the launch of “Chaff” and “Flare” and the use of the side machine gun 7.62 mm – MAG.

In addition to the various deployments of the Squadron Service Aircraft (ASE) by the MB Rescue Services (SALVAMAR), emphasizing the multipurpose characteristic of the SH-16 Seahawk.
