LONDON Nov. 19, 2025 - Lockheed Martin, global aerospace giant, announced today that its sponsorship of an innovative space-focused STEM programme is set to extend through 2026 - marking the fifth consecutive year of support.

Run in partnership with Northumbria University, Space Camp gives Year 6 and Year 12 students hands-on experience in, rocket design, robotics and satellite modelling, supported by mentors from industry and academia. The programme aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists and help close the UK’s growing skills gap in STEM careers.

More than 60 students from 16 schools across the Northeast took part in this year’s camp, held in Newcastle last month.

By investing in education, we’re helping to build the UK’s sovereign strength in engineering and technology. The energy and creativity we see at Space Camp each year shows exactly why this programme matters. These young people are the future engineers, scientists and innovators who will shape the technologies that keep the UK secure and competitive.

Funded by investment from the UK Space Agency, Lockheed Martin and Northumbria University it is expected to create more than 300 jobs and inject more than £250 million into the Northeast economy over the next 30 yrs.
