Space Camp Sponsorship Set to Extend Through 2026
Strengthening the UK’s engineering talent pipeline
LONDON Nov. 19, 2025 - Lockheed Martin, global aerospace giant, announced today that its sponsorship of an innovative space-focused STEM programme is set to extend through 2026 - marking the fifth consecutive year of support.
Run in partnership with Northumbria University, Space Camp gives Year 6 and Year 12 students hands-on experience in, rocket design, robotics and satellite modelling, supported by mentors from industry and academia. The programme aims to inspire the next generation of scientists, engineers and technologists and help close the UK’s growing skills gap in STEM careers.
More than 60 students from 16 schools across the Northeast took part in this year’s camp, held in Newcastle last month.
The next Space Camp will move to the new £50 million North East Space Skills and Technology Centre (NESST) at Northumbria University - a state-of-the-art hub for training, research and innovation that will support the UK’s growing space economy and provide hands-on training for students and professionals in satellite technology, space systems engineering and related disciplines. Funded by investment from the UK Space Agency, Lockheed Martin and Northumbria University it is expected to create more than 300 jobs and inject more than £250 million into the Northeast economy over the next 30 yrs.
Across 23 UK sites, Lockheed Martin is bolstering the transatlantic partnership through innovation in satellite communications, resilient space architectures and technologies that ensure space systems remain operational and effective.
Through its UK Space business, based in Harwell, Oxfordshire, the company is strengthening the UK’s sovereign and export space capabilities by building on its heritage in satellite communications, resilient architectures and on-orbit protection.
